With more than 475 million square feet of distribution space in markets across North America, Europe and Asia, ProLogis owns and manages more industrial real estate than any other provider in the world. So naturally, when we say "Warehousing the World Responsibly" that covers a lot of ground.
We're committed to developing distribution facilities to the highest environmental standards—including LEED®, BREEAM, or CASBEE certification. Our customers look to ProLogis for quality distribution space that is not only strategically located but also environmentally responsible and economically advantageous. At right, we show how ProLogis helped several of our customers around the world achieve a sustainable warehousing solution for their supply chain network.
Committing to a Triple Impact
ProLogis' approach to sustainability only begins with green building. Our ultimate goal is to make a triple impact: in how we build and maintain distribution centers (environment stewardship), in how we serve our local communities (social responsibility) and how we operate our business over the long term (business excellence). We've made significant strides in all three areas since we launched our initiative in 2005. For details on our current progress, access our 2008 Sustainability Report, published annually in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative.
Providing Power to the People
In 2009, ProLogis officially launched a Global Renewable Energy initiative to address the issue of climate change with a revenue-generating solution that uses our existing rooftop assets and construction expertise to meet the renewable energy needs of local utilities. ProLogis is working with energy partners to install and maintain solar panels on the rooftops of our distribution facilities, without disrupting the operations of our traditional customers housed in the facilities. To date, 20 solar installations worldwide with a capacity of 11 megawatts are producing clean renewable power that is being delivered directly into the local electrical grid. ProLogis Global Renewable Energy Group is a member of SEPA (Solar Electric Power Association). Follow the link at right for additional information about our renewable energy business.
